Tanzania Green Business Expo and Green Challenge Fund
ABOUT THE GREEN EXPO
Tanzania Recyclers Association (TARA) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Global Compact Network (UNGC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have organized the first ever Tanzania Green Business Expo (TGBE) on 11th and 12th December 2019 at National Museum of Tanzania, Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania. The annual platform is set to showcase the work of innovative environmental entrepreneurs, linking them to potential markets in Tanzania and beyond. In the long term, this will increase the viability of the individual businesses and demonstrate the potential for greening to other enterprises across all economic sectors. The event is expected to strengthen and promote innovative environmental solutions and the circular economy business models, creating decent jobs and generating income to the youth and women across Tanzania.
The expo is intended to achieve the following objectives:
i. Providing an opportunity for innovative environmental entrepreneurs/SME to showcase their innovative solutions that address environmental challenges
ii. Strengthening a network of producers and suppliers of raw materials used in innovative environmental products and services
iii. Making a link for potential market opportunities of green products and services from innovative environmental solutions such as recycled and upcycled products.
iv. Motivating efforts and initiatives of environmental innovators through giving awards to the best innovations addressing environmental challenges in Tanzania.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The Tanzania Green Challenge competition will be being implemented in collaboration with local business development service (BDS) providers to offer financial and non-financial services to innovative green and growth oriented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to grow their businesses.
The Green Challenge will create a platform for green enterprise innovation and development of sustainable enterprises, particularly women and youth, to drive the creation of green and decent jobs. Targeted emerging and established SMEs will increase their provision of green products and services by accessing a tailored business development programme, supported by selected BDS providers. It aims to tap the potential of a green economy in Tanzania by:
i. addressing high levels of youth unemployment;
ii. increasing the numbers of formal and growth-oriented enterprises; and
iii. improving the sustainability of production processes in SMEs.
The Green Challenge is part of the ILO Tanzania Green jobs project to promote job creation for youth and women in an environmentally sound manner, supported by the Government of Sweden.
